During this difficult time, while kids are at home doing virtual school and overwhelmed parents are struggling to teach and support them, the Colorado Author’s League has come together to create Prompts for Young Writers.
Colorado authors, including myself, contributed writing prompts and writing tips for Grades 1-2, Grades 3-5, Middle School and High School.
Some of my writing prompts for Grades 3-5 include:
* If you had a million dollars, but could only spend it on others, what would you buy and who would you buy it for?
* If you were president, what is one thing you would change in the world, and how would it help others?
* Write a persuasive letter to convince your caretakers to take you on vacation. Research the destination and create a travel itinerary with cost of transportation and hotel, list of activities, best travel times, packing list, etc.
* Research an endangered animal. Write a report with at least five reasons why this animal is important to the ecosystem and needs to be protected.
Some writing tips include: READ and WRITE everyday. Write with the five senses, write what you know, write what you love.

Happy Writing!
